He was the real deal, with a yes sir and a yes mam, a firm hand shake while looking you in the eyes spoke volumes about his honesty. He was the one to hold a door open while everyone else piled in. He was rough and tough when he had to be, but was kind and compassionate most always. The Chivalrous Cowboy.
A few years ago as I was driving home from work around 1 am, about 3 or 4 cop cars came around the corner with their lights on and stopped me and were shining their lights on me. I turned off the car and kept my hands on the steering wheel.
A cop approached me with his gun drawn on me and the…
I’m very sorry this happened to you. It’s not right. I know four cops, three of which I’ve know since the 3rd grade. Through grade school, high school and into college we had a close solid friendship. I loved them like brothers. They had good kind hearts and wanted to make a difference. But Something happened. They changed dramatically after they graduated from their academy and became cops. Their attitude changed. Their compassion was washed away and their demeanor was bitter and cynical. They had a chip on their shoulder. They looked down on the poor and homeless with disdain. It became very hard to be around them for any length of time. As time went on I noticed signs of racism. This was like a knife in my heart because some of my other friends were black and I loved them the same, like brothers and sisters. When you grow up and start thinking for yourself you choose to be around those that you love, those that are a reflection of who you are. Needless to say, the circle of friends that I care about, that care about me, do not include those three cops. I miss what they could have become. I do see hope though in the other friend of mine that is also a cop. He is not like the others. Again, I am very sorry that happened to you. You did nothing wrong and were stopped for no reason what so ever. You did the right thing by keeping your composer with your hands on the steering wheel.
Charley and that northwest waterfall.
